Not by Works But by Faith
Not by works but by faith…
Romans 5:1 states: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
I was taught as a child that I could literally work my way to Heaven. But God’s Word says quite the opposite (see the verse above). Not by works but by faith.
What does God’s Word say about sin? Check out the following verse in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
As we see, God’s Word says we ‘fall short’. If God’s Word says we’re all sinners and we, therefore, do not measure up to His standard, what can we do? Romans 6:23 says: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Notice that God offers eternal life as a ‘gift’ to us. Jesus is that gift. But what do we have to do when someone holds a gift out to us?
We have to take it. God has His hands held out offering His gift of salvation through the blood sacrifice of Jesus.
How much does God love us? Here’s what John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
So, what do you have to do to accept God’s gift of salvation?

Confess to Him that you are a sinner (remember Romans 3:23 above).
Next, accept His gift of salvation by saying “Yes, Lord I believe Jesus died for me. I accept your gift of salvation.”
And then, what’s next?
Baptism by immersion is next. It is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It’s important to connect with a Gospel preaching church so that you are fed spiritually. Remember, not every church preaches the Gospel, so use wisdom and seek God’s Will as to where He’d have you go.
